Before you can officially carry out your plans to achieve your goals, you would first have to sit down and think about what exactly are you aiming to achieve?

Goals are longer-term, broad, global and future statements of “being” (Jayasainan, 2018). Goals are the final result or outcome of an attempt whereas objectives focus rather on shorter term results that help you achieve the final goal.

Objectives, be it small or big, are important in your planning process. Setting your objectives will help you determine the exact results that you want to achieve, when do you want to achieve and how you want to achieve them. Simply constructing objectives or ignoring the importance of having objectives will definitely make your plan a pointless one.

In corporate life, “SMART Goal Setting” is recognized as one of the most effective and yet least used tools for achieving goals (YourCoach, 2018). Therefore, using the SMART approach in an objective manner will help you clarify your ideas, efforts, using your time and resources productively and increasing the chances of being able to achieve your goals.

Specific: When creating an objective, you want it to be as short, direct and specific as possible. What exactly are you aiming for? Who is your best target audiences?

Measurable: Are your goals/objectives measurable? How are you going to measure your outcomes? How are you going to portray the success of your campaign at the end?

Attainable/Achievable: Do you believe that you have the time and resources to accomplish what you have planned? Don’t aim for something that cannot be done.

Relevant/Realistic: Is your plan too complex? Do you have the enough time to achieve what you want?

Time-Based: When is your dateline? Always be mindful of the risks that are involved, never assume that it could be done easily or quickly until you have done it.

Previously, we have discussed about a Corporate Social Responsibility campaign entitled #CyberSAFE organized by Digi Telecommunications and CyberSecurity Malaysia. This program represents a nationwide outreach campaign that focuses on creating awareness of child safety on the Internet.

Based on #CyberSAFE, I have created a brief Public Relations (PR) plan for the campaign using the SMART objectives, strategies and tactics.

SMART Objective 1 - Created by Martin Lee

SMART Objective 2 - Created by Martin Lee

With the objectives mentioned above, together with their specific strategies and tactics, it could possibly help make the #CyberSAFE campaign gather more impactful outcomes.

That’s a wrap for today, thank you and have a great week ahead!
